Jon & Nikki – Isle of Wight Summer Wedding

I’m so excited to share this amazing wedding of Jon and Nikki on the Isle of Wight last July.

Travelling from Devon the previous day through atrocious weather I began to get a little concerned. Heavy, driving rain is not ideal for any wedding, especially one that’s based on a cliff top in the open! Once I arrived I clearly got a sense of the community spirit of island life as the grooms party invited me round for beers and pizza. Waking up the following morning the weather couldn’t have been any different, clear blue skies and calm seas for as far as the eye could see.

After photographing the bridal preparations at Nikki’s family home, we made our way to the beautiful Victorian mansion, East Dene on the south coast. Perched high on the cliff tops with a huge garden with views over the English Channel, it’s a beautiful location. I have to admit the decorated marquee was one of the best I’d seen. The sheer effort put in by Jon, Nikki and all their friends was clearly visible. A large black painted longboard was to hold the table plans which was a nod to Jon’s surfing obsession. Each table was named after a beach on the island and sat in the middle was a bottle containing sand from each of those places, it must have taken a while! Along with the beautifully designed table names engraved into pieces of driftwood which was clearly from Nikki’s design background, not to mention the amazing invites she also designed.

Later in the evening we made the most of a small pebble beach only 5 minuets from the venue and got some great photos of the happiest couple on the island. I stayed for as long as I could photographing the party at the end of the night before catching the last ferry back to the mainland with only 5 minutes to spare. It was a truly memorable day and such a joy to be part of. I hope you enjoy the images:
